Item Information This listing is for a Heavy Duty Deep Transmission Pan with 2.5 Quarts Extra Capacity for C6 Transmissions, which are found on 1960’s and 1970’s full size cars and pre-1988 Ford vans, motor homes, SUVs, and trucks. It is finished as cast, in natural aluminum. This PML pan design features steps for vehicles with cross members or other clearance issues. The extra capacity comes from the deep sump in the middle of the pan. Please check your vehicle carefully using the dimensions below for clearance and to verify the transmission installed on your truck or SUV. A magnetic drain plug and all mounting bolts are included with the pan. PML includes new mounting hardware since the stock bolts would not be long enough. The flange of the PML pan is much thicker than the stock pan for a secure seal to the housing. The above image shows the contents of the box for a pan in the as-cast finish as an example. This picture shows the inside of the pan, PML designed this pan to work with stock gaskets and filters. Filter supports are not needed as the filter bolts on to the valve body. The fluid level is at the same place with a PML pan or a stock pan so an extension is not needed. The above photo shows two possible filter kits for Ford C6 transmissions. They both include a rubber-cork type gasket, which we recommended for use with a PML transmission pan. These are from Fram and have part numbers FT1025a and FT1037a (longer pick-up spout shown on right). A customer with a 1987 F250 purchased the the FT1055a C6 filter, which he used with his PML pan. This filter has a pick up tube connected to the filter with a gasket. Although the gasket holds the tube in place, the tube probably rested on the bottom of the stock pan. The PML pan is NOT designed to support a pick up tube. If the tube should fall out of the main part of the filter, severe damage could result. The above image shows three stock Ford C6 transmission pans compared with the PML deep and stock capacity pans. The PML stock capacity C6 pan will not clear the frame cross members that run under the pan on some Ford trucks. In the above photo you can see the drain is located on the driver’s side of the transmission pan. A magnetic drain plug is included with each order. This pan has two bosses (thick, round areas) that can optionally be machined for a temperature sending unit. If you wish to drill and tap for a temperature sending unit, there is a machining charge of $65, contact us before ordering if you would like this option. These hold the filter at the same location as the stock pan so no filter extension is needed.The fluid level and pick-up remain the same with a PML pan as with the stock pan. On the 6L50 transmissions we have seen, the fill is a plugged hole in the main casing, on the passenger/right side. Vehicles do not have a dipstick or fill in the engine compartment, the fluid level check hole is on the pan. Checking the fluid level is ambiguous, no matter if you have the stock pan or this PML pan. We recommend measuring the stock pan fluid level and amount of drained fluid before installing this deep pan. Check your owners or service manual for the procedure for your vehicle. The PML level check hole is at the same location relative to the transmission as on the stock pan. The Stock pan does not have a drain plug, so changing the transmission fluid and filter is a messy procedure. This deep pan has a drain hole on the driver side. A magnetic drain plug is included with the pan. There is a boss on the passenger side that can be machined for use with aftermarket sensors and gauges. If you would like us to machine and tap a boss for you there is an extra $65.00 charge. Contact us before ordering to arrange payment for the machining charge. The boss can accommodate from 1/8 to 1/2 NPT. The boss can also be used as an alternate drain plug location. In the above photo you can see the difference in depth of the Deep Pan vs Stock Pan.
